Matthew 6:19-21
‘Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal;
but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
An Offering from Mary Lynn Woodall:
In these three verses of Matthew, Jesus tells us “Do not lay
up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where
thieves break in and steal, but lay up for
yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and
where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where you treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Whenever we hear this, we are reminded that
accumulating material goods is not the road to happiness, and naturally, we
would all say we value our family and friends above possessions, but is that
all? During this Lenten season, as we
meditate and pray, perhaps we should ask ourselves, “Where, indeed, is my
treasure? Where do I invest my time, my
interest, my money? What, ultimately,
makes my life full of joy and peace?”
Prayer
Holy Spirit,
Open my heart to your love and guidance so that I may know
the peace of a life lived for you. Amen
