2/20 Wednesday in the First Week of Lent

2 Corinthians 6:3-10
We are putting no obstacle in anyone’s way, so that no fault may be found with our ministry, but as servants of God we have commended ourselves in every way: through great endurance, in afflictions, hardships, calamities, beatings, imprisonments, riots, labours, sleepless nights, hunger; by purity, knowledge, patience, kindness, holiness of spirit, genuine love, truthful speech, and the power of God; with the weapons of righteousness for the right hand and for the left; in honor and dishonor, in ill repute and good repute. We are treated as impostors, and yet are true; as unknown, and yet are well known; as dying, and see—we are alive; as punished, and yet not killed; as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.

An Offering from Kelly Edwards:

The part I really like from this verse is this:

...but as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: through great endurance... (2 Corinthians 6:4)

Endurance is the key here. God, looking upon Paul's life, is pleased by the fact that no matter what happens to him he sticks with it. He endures; that is the point. The word endures, literally means to "stay under the pressure." We all feel pressure -- pressure to give up or pressure to go along with something. This verse calls us to persevere under the pressure; and not to quit. The term, "hang in there," expresses exactly what this verse means -- "Just hang in there and don't quit until you are successful."

Prayer

Dear Lord,
We thank you for the strength you give us to persevere through all troubles and hardships. We thank you for blessing us with the gifts of friends and family to help us through times when we feel pressure. Please give us the courage to turn to patience, kindness, and sincere love to overcome all the troubles in our lives.
Amen.
